Each year, Universities award honorary doctorates to exceptional people across every field of society. Collectively they represent an extraordinary source of insight, influence and opportunity, and one that is largely untapped.
The Society exists to connect it and release it. We give Honorary Doctors a purposeful platform to stay connected, support their awarding institution and connect to a completely unique international network. We give Universities a simple way to engage with the community they have already gathered, whilst tapping into a ‘hive mind’ of international intelligence.

A new approach
A global society, with a chapter at each participating University.
Society management
The Society of Honorary Doctors develops the model, guides the activity and provides the management platform.
University chapters
Universities establish their own locally focused chapter, connected to their own Honorary Doctorate network and the Society's global network.
Fellowship
Verified Honorary Doctors become Fellows of the Society and carry the post-nominal letters FSHD.
Engagement
Strategic boards, masterclasses, guest lectures and an annual gathering, all shaped around institutional priorities.
Societal impact
The Society Fund
The future vision for the Society is to be a global force for transformative impact. Not only will the Society and its Fellows support Universities in executing their strategic goals and overcoming challenges along the way, but the Society will also return its surplus to the communities its Fellows serve. As membership grows, that surplus will go into the ‘Society Fund’.
Chapters will be able to apply directly to the Society Fund for support for University or student initiatives and causes in their local community. We will seek match funding for every award, so each pound, euro and dollar goes further.
The Fund will have its own board and a published application process. We will share more as it takes shape.
The Honorand
Universities know the value of awarding honorary doctorates. The Society unlocks the potential of those awarded, to deliver value, purpose and positive societal impact.
