Accessibility statement

What we are aiming for

We want every honorary doctor to be able to use this platform, whatever they use to browse with. We are working to WCAG 2.2 level AA, and we would rather hear that we have fallen short than not know.

What has been done

• Text and controls meet the 4.5 to 1 contrast target in both the light and the dark theme, checked by measuring the rendered colours rather than by eye.
• The whole platform works from the keyboard. Every link and button can be reached by tab and used with Enter or Space, and the focus outline is visible.
• Pages carry proper headings and landmarks, tables carry column headers, and every form field has a label attached to it.
• Nothing depends on colour alone: every status carries a word as well as a colour.
• The layout works from 320 pixels wide upwards without side-scrolling, and reflows when text is enlarged.

Where we know we fall short

We would rather list these than let somebody discover them.

• Dialogs do not yet trap focus properly, so a keyboard user can tab out of an open dialog into the page behind it.
• We have not yet tested with a screen reader in earnest. Until we have, we cannot claim the platform is fully usable with one.
• Some status messages change on screen without being announced.
• The placeholder photographs used while the Society is being built have no meaningful alternative text.

How this was tested

The platform is tested with automated checks that run against the built pages, covering contrast, keyboard operation, layout at five widths and both themes. It has not yet had an independent audit, and it should have one before the Society opens to real members.
