Celebrating Dr Brian Williamson
We are proud to feature Dr Brian Williamson in our latest Honorary Doctorate Spotlight. In 2017, Glasgow Caledonian University awarded him an Honorary Doctor of Business Administration for his outstanding support of entrepreneurship and his dedicated mentoring of GCU students and alumni.
From Stirling Tenements to MD at 26 Born in a Stirling tenement to a foundryman and a waitress, Brian’s journey proves that anything is possible. After studying at the institution that became GCU, his ascent was rapid, securing his first Managing Director role by age 26. However, his path was a "rollercoaster" - overcoming a near-total financial loss in 1996 and a 2015 cancer diagnosis to become a "Maverick" of the Scottish business ecosystem.
A Legacy of High-Impact Growth A veteran of five recessions, Brian has built a distinguished career defined by transformative leadership and spectacular exits: ⦿ Brightwork: Led a management buy-in resulting in a 2017 exit that returned 75x to shareholders. ⦿ Jumpstart: Scaled the R&D specialist to become Scotland’s fastest-growing SME before its 2019 sale. ⦿ Recognition: Named a Business Insider "Maverick" and the IoD Scotland Non-Executive Director of the Year (2021), where judges described him as a "strategic visionary."
🤖 Pioneering the AI Frontier at Kreoh Today, Brian continues to shape the future as Chief Strategy Officer at Kreoh, an AI-driven specialist firm. He focuses on the "application layer" - the critical intersection where AI moves from theoretical potential to tangible business impact. Alongside this, he serves as Chairman of FWB and CEO of Your R&D Advisory Board, following successful tenures as Chairman of Elevator, 4ICG Group, and Director of Equity Gap.
Mentorship & Philosophy Brian remains a vital mentor within GCU’s Entrepreneurial Hub, sharing the wisdom gained over four decades at board level. His guiding philosophy remains: "There are only two outcomes in life: success and learning."
