Their story
Celebrating Dr Andrew Malcolm MBE
Our second Honorary Doctorate Spotlight from the University of the West of Scotland is Andrew Malcolm MBE, CEO of The Malcolm Group. His story is one of family legacy, people-first leadership, and the transformative power of local business done well.
Leading a Scottish Logistics Legacy The Malcolm Group is a 100-year-old Scottish family business based in Linwood. Under Andrew's leadership as CEO, the company has transformed into a major player in the logistics sector, with nearly 2,000 employees across the UK, and multiple generations of families working within the organisation.
Recognition of Excellence In 2023, Andrew was awarded an MBE in the King's Birthday Honours List in recognition of his leadership and achievements. Beyond his business success, Andrew is deeply committed to giving back, serving as an ambassador for the Beatson Cancer Charity and sitting on the board of the Wise Group, a social enterprise working to lift people out of poverty.
Why UWS Honoured Him As Prof. James Miller FRSE, Principal of UWS, noted: "Andrew's passion to nurture and support the families and communities connected to Malcolm Group is incredibly inspirational, and his ethos directly aligns with the mission and values of UWS." The honour is particularly meaningful as UWS graduates now thrive throughout Malcolm Group's organisation.
Andrew on His Honour "I am deeply honoured and humbled to receive an Honorary Doctorate from UWS. While it is wonderful to be recognised, it always comes back to the fact I have a phenomenal team around me in a business I am very passionate about. It is extra special to receive this honour from my local University, which offers employer-focussed degrees. I am delighted to say many of its alumni thrive in our business today."
Andrew Malcolm exemplifies what the Society of Honorary Doctors celebrates: leaders who translate personal achievement into tangible benefit for their teams, their communities, and society at large. He shows that family business, done with integrity and people-focus, can scale nationally while maintaining local roots and social purpose.
